Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone Review

Nokia Lumia 900 black, white and cyan
Nokia Lumia 900 Black, White and Cyan
If you're a fan of Windows Phones and big screens then Nokia Lumia 900 phone deals will be right up your street. If, on the other hand, you are simply looking for the best phone available whatever its creed, then it's probably a better idea to check out iPhone deals or high end Androids such as the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Why's that, you ask? Let us explain.

Nokia Lumia 900

Firstly it's important to point out that we have nothing against Windows Phones. Actually, they tend to be a refreshing difference to the little icons of an iOS or Android. With a Windows Phone you get big, bold tiles and panoramic menus and it's easy to understand why that would be popular. The problem with the Lumia 900 is that it's not much of an improvement on the Lumia 800.  For Nokia Lumia 900's full specs check out Nokia's website.

As we mentioned, the Lumia 900 has a big screen at 4.3 inches, to the Lumia 800's 3.7 inches. But the resolution is still 800 x 480 pixels so it doesn't produce the crispest of pictures. It does use the ClearBlack AMOLED technology though, which is supposed to make the blacks even blacker so that the other colours can stand out more. And to be fair, the colours are plenty vibrant, the screen simply doesn't produce the most precise image.

Perhaps the biggest disappointment with the Lumia 900 however is the processor. There has been no improvement in that area on the 1.4GHz single-core processor which the Lumia 800 also contains. In comparison, other phones in the price range have dual-core or even quad-core processors, making for much smoother operations and the ability to carry out multiple operations at the same time.

There is a possibility that web browsing will be made faster with an upgrade to the 3G network, which the Lumia 900 is ready for. However with the American counterpart of this phone getting 4G that seems like a minor consolation prize. Since 4G has yet to make the leap across the pond though, there wouldn't have been much point in giving the phone that capability.

Windows v iOS v Android

While we do appreciate the refreshing feel and look of a Windows Phone, we would be remiss if we didn't mention some of the drawbacks. One of those is that there is very little customisation available, you pretty much have to keep it the way you find it. Not much tinkering is possible, at which Android is king.

By far the bigger problem, however, is the app situation. If you have an Android or iOS then you're going to have around 500,000 apps to choose from, that number continuing to grow apace. However on the Microsoft Marketplace there are only around 80,000 apps and it's always the last to get the new cool app everyone is talking about... if it even makes it there at all.

Nokia has provided some free apps of its own to try to rectify this problem. For example NokiaDrive is a turn by turn sat nav app and is quite handy. Then there's the Mix Radio app for streaming radio and Local Scout for finding things in the vicinity. Generally though with a Windows Phone you are going to miss out on a number of apps so for many people that's going to be a deal breaker.

What's more, the Lumia 900 doesn't support Adobe Flash so you're not going to be able to view all videos on the web. That's something iOS phones also have to deal with but in that case there are so many apps available it can be dealt with quite easily. Not so with a Windows Phone.

Summary

Although there are a number of reasons you might not want to take the plunge with the Lumia 900, if you're a fan of Windows Phones, you love big screens and you can do without a vast array of apps then it's well worth checking out Nokia Lumia 900 black monthly contract deals to find the best price. You can also go for Nokia Lumia 900 white deals or NokiaLumia 900 cyan deals.

King of the Bargain Basement: Huawei Ascend G300

Huawei Ascend G300 front and back views
Huawei Ascend G300 deals
As technology continues to improve in the mobile market, smart phone deals are getting better and better. At the top of the bargain basement right now is the Huawei Ascend G300 which gets you a whopping 4 inch screen and 1GHz processor for amazingly low prices.

Budget Android

Two of the main contenders to the Adcend G300 are the recently reviewed T-MobileVivacity and Orange San Francisco II, which we praised for providing a lot of bang for your buck. But they only have 3.5 inch screen and 800MHz processors. Now granted they do tend to be a little bit less expensive than the Adcend G300 but really not very much less so the Ascend G300 is really doing a remarkable job for such a low price.

Of course the processor on the Adcend G300 isn't going to be able to handle 3D gaming like the top line phones can, but you really can't expect it to at this price. Also, while the screen is larger than the Vivacity or San Francisco II, the resolution stays the same at 480 x 800 pixels so the pixel per inch score is a bit lower, meaning that the resolution is in effect a bit lower. However it's barely noticeable and you still get a great looking screen. When browsing the web you're going to have to be prepared to do plenty of zooming and scrolling though.

You also get a 5 megapixel camera (like the Vivacity and San Francisco II) and 2.5GB internal storage (with room for a microSD card up to 32GB). Video quality isn't that hot though and audio quality is only so-so, but perfectly adequate for making calls.

The Ascend G300 comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but Huawei are promising an update to Ice Cream Sandwich soon. However it's expected that a lot of people won't make that upgrade since you will really need more processing power to make full use of it, so Gingerbread should really be more than adequate.

Check out Ascend G300's full specs at Huawei's website.

There have to be down sides of course, we're talking about a bargain phone so that is inevitable. For one thing operation between menus is slightly jittery, but if you're not used to the smoothness of high end phones then you probably won't even notice that. Also, the screen can be a tad unresponsive to the touch. That just means that you have to get used to using a little more pressure when you slide your finger across it, rather than the light touch required for more expensive phones.

Summary

The Ascend G300 is never going to compete with iPhones or the latest Android like the Samsung Galaxy S III, but it's not designed to. This is a phone for people on a budget. That an Android smart phone with a 4 inch screen and 1GHz processor can now be produced for bargain prices is a testament to just how fast mobile technology is developing.

If you want a powerful phone for practically rock bottom prices then look no further than Huawei Ascend G300 monthly contract deals.

Battle of the Twins: T-Mobile Vivacity v Orange San Francisco II

T-Mobile Vivacity front and profile views
T-Mobile Vivacity deals

If you're looking for a budget Android smart phone then you really can't go wrong with either the T-Mobile Vivacity or the Orange San Francisco II. However making a case for one over the other is going to be tricky because they are practically twins. Not identical twins, because in appearance they are actually quite different. Their make up, however, is practically identical.

Similarities

You think we're joking? How about these for similarities:

  • Screen: 3.5 in., resolution of 800 x 480 pixels

This is not bad for a budget Android, it provides for crisp pictures and vivid colours. The screen is the same size as the iPhone's, although of course the resolution is not as good.

  • Processing power: 800MHz CPU, 512MB RAM.

Again, for a budget Android phone this is not bad at all. As long as you don't try to play 3D games or do too many tasks at the same time, the operation is going to be as smooth as you like.

  • Camera: 5 megapixel (rear) + front facing camera for video calls.

Both devices have a 5 megapixel camera which, again, is fine for a budget phone. It's not going to replace a compact camera but it's okay for a phone.

Both the T-Mobile Vivacity and Orange San Francisco II run the latest version of Android Gingerbread. While this is far from the latest version of Android (Ice Cream Sandwich has recently been surpassed by Jelly Bean) for the processing power of the phone it's probably the best one you could have anyway. You're not going to be able to make use of the best features of the latest Android outings without a beefier processor. For instance the Samsung Galaxy S III now has a quad-core processor and is nearly twice as powerful at 1.4GHz, and if you're willing to spend around £400 more on a phone then it's definitely worth checking it out. But if you're looking for good phone deals on a budget android then the Gingerbread is plenty capable and it's a good fit.

To compare the full specs of both mobile phones, here are the Orange San Francisco II specs and T-Mobile Vivacity specs.

Okay, so those are the main similarities between the Vivacity and the San Francisco II – they're what make both phones well worth considering if you're looking for a low-priced Android smart phone. So, how should you choose between them?

Differences

  • Design: iPhone (Vivacity) V Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo (San Francisco II)

The design of neither phone is entirely original, they are both quite obviously based on the design of other phones. The Vivacity has the straight edged, cuboid look with metallic finish of the iPhone while the San Francisco II has the sleek and shiny design of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo.

When choosing between the two phones then, it's probably best to go with which one you like the look of the more. This might be the first and last time that we ever advise choosing a phone on the basis solely of what it looks like, but when it comes to these two there is really little else to consider.

Having said that, T-Mobile and Orange have adapted the pure Android slightly and you have provided their own bloatware of course. In all honesty though, those differences are not as significant as the aesthetics of the phone.

Summary

It's not often that we will advise judging a phone on the basis of its chassis, but if you like the specs and you like the price, then whether T-Mobile Vivacity monthly contract deals or Orange San Francisco II deals are going to be more attractive will probably largely come down to which one is more physically attractive to you. In terms of what's underneath the skin, they don't compare to the more expensive Android offerings of course but for the price these are a couple of little gems and we're confident you won't be disappointed with either of them.

Introducing: The Samsung Galaxy S III!

Samsung Galaxy S III android
Samsung Galaxy S III white deals
Okay. So, yeah. Wow. The Samsung Galaxy S III. Phoar. Yep. Well, we're a bit lost for words here to be honest. This is a... good... phone.

Look, some friendly advice here, if you're looking for an entry-level or mid-range Android smart phone, stop reading right now. There are some decent phone deals to be had on it but generally, it comes down to that old conundrum – if you have to ask how much it costs then it's probably going to be too much. But if, on the other hand, high-specs and gorgeous phones be the food of love for you then read on, read on.

What's all the Fuss About?

So what's so good about the Samsung Galaxy S3? After all, its rounded corners look a bit old fashioned these days, it doesn't have Flash support for viewing videos on the web, Samsung's TouchWiz user interface on top of the Android is a bit difficult to use sometimes and counter-intuitive so... why all the fuss?

Well... the massive 4.8 inch screen with 720p resolution being run by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor – that's just nuts! Most phones are still single-core but the with Galaxy S3, Samsung said to hell with that, we're going to go straight for a quad-core processor! The result? Very smooth motion, almost no lagging, the ability to play top of the range 3D mobile phone games and to carry out multiple tasks at the same time. Indeed with the Pop-up Play option you can have a little video playing in the corner while you write out a text or an email.

What else? Well, there's also Samsung's Music Hub which allows you to browse and download music from a significant library of tracks and albums. There's a nice little radio app that allows you to record from the radio.

S Planner is the calendar app and integrates well with features like S Memo, which allows you not only to type text in but also to scribble and draw with your finger – and then put that in to the calendar app if you like.

If you've had enough of having to use your fingers to operate the phone though you can use the S Voice feature which will carry out tasks through voice command. It's like the iPhone's Siri feature, but to be honest neither of them are one hundred percent reliable, and of the two Samsung's S Voice is actually the lesser. If you like though you can even set up the phone so that it requires your face and voice to unlock it.

That's another feature that the Galaxy S3 has – an eye tracker that can recognise when someone is looking at the phone. The main point of that is that it won't turn the phone off if it can sense someone is looking at it. So long as you're not paranoid and don't mind the idea of your phone watching you, then that's a very nice little addition.

What more can we say about this phone? It has an 8 megapixel camera and records HD video. The screen is HD Super AMOLED and has a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. You can choose between having 16GB and 32GB internal storage, and you can add a microSD card for even more. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has only recently been surpassed by Jelly Bean, and is likely to get an upgrade to the latest Android OS in the near future. In short, this is a phone at the very top of its game and is unlikely to be pushed aside by anything else for some time to come.

Check out the the Samsung Galaxy S III full specs on the Samsung website.

Summary

If you're in the market for the best Android phone out there right now, you have to check out Samsung Galaxy S III blue monthly contract deals or Samsung Galaxy S III white monthly contract deals and at least consider this phone. Yes, there are some minor flaws but it's really just nit-picking. This phone is a beast and is a major contender not just on the Android market but to the iPhone format as well. If you have the wallet for it, there's really no reason to look anywhere else.

Is the "LG Prada Phone by LG 3.0" Precious or Pretentious?

LG Prada Phone by LG 3.0 front and back
 deals
The name is probably the worst thing about this phone. If LG and Prada were trying to avoid the appearance that they were producing a pretentious abomination of a phone, then they certainly didn't show it by calling it the LG Prada Phone by LG 3.0. From now on, it shall be known as the LG Prada Phone 3.0. Actually though, as we said, the name is probably the worst thing about it, overall it's good... but it comes with a rather high price tag. You may be able to find an acceptable price if you check out some phone deals though.

Prada Phone? Eh?

For any fashion troglodytes out there, Prada is an Italian fashion label and, yes, they make phones with LG as well. This is in fact the third phone that they've made together. And in all honesty, hard as this is to admit, it really isn't bad at all. First and foremost though, let's get to what you really want to know: the design.

One of the most striking things about this phone is how slim it is. We're not talking Size Zero though, at just 8.5mm thick we're getting in to negative numbers now. And the back curves inwards as well... which is perhaps a part of LG's “Floating Mass Technology” which is supposed to make the phone look even thinner than it is. Which presumably makes it the mobile-phone equivalent of airbrushing.

It's not just its super skinny appearance that makes it stand out though. The front and back are also highly distinctive. The back is textured, in a prickly sort of way... we wondered if it was supposed to stand in as an emergency nail file as well (don't worry, these jokes are going to end soon). In all honesty though it does give it character, although it might become uncomfortable to hold if you're having a long chat.

The home-screen of the LG Prada Phone 3.0 has been designed mono-chromatically, with only white and black allowed. This makes the already large screen (at 4.3 in.) seem to actually cover the whole front of the phone. It does give a classy look... and of course black and white are unlikely to ever go out of fashion. If you're concerned about downloading apps that will ruin the look, don't worry, you can replace the icon with one of their pre-installed options, and there are a fair few of them so you should be able to find something appropriate. The only problem is that you can't look for the iconic blue and white of a Facebook logo or the red and white of YouTube, so it can take a bit longer to actually pick out the app that you're looking for.

Performance

So is the LG Prada Phone 3.0 as impractical as wearing a shoe for a hat, or does it strut down the catwalk of high performance with consummate ease? Well... it's somewhere in-between, but closer to the latter. This is a good phone. It has a 1GHz dual core processor and 1GB or RAM as well, so it will be able to handle just about everything you can throw at it with good grace. There's only 8GB internal storage, but that can be enhanced up to 32GB with a microSD card.

The screen, as noted, is plenty large enough at 4.3 inches and has a resolution of 480 x 800 which isn't actually that high by modern standards but colours are still vibrant and images crisp. There can be very little complaint there.

Now, when it comes to Android, there's a little bit of an issue there. When it came out it had Gingerbread but was supposed to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich in the very near future. It is now several months later and still no upgrade. Well, to be fair the upgrade has been released, but only in Italy and Germany. So for the moment it's only Gingerbread, which works well enough. With Ice Cream Sandwich though it is going to run even more sumptuously.

The camera is pretty standard, capturing 8 megapixels. It also records video at 1080p so you will get excellent HD videos.

Find the full specs on the LG website.

Summary

If you're a Prada aficionado and you're looking for a phone that won't clash with your wardrobe, then you won't be disappointed with this phone, and we can recommend that you check out the best LG Prada Phone by LG 3.0 monthly contract deals. On the other hand if you're looking to get the best performing phone for your money, then it might be better to check out iPhone deals or the high end Androids (such as the Samsung Galaxy S II)

The Dreamy HTC Desire S: A Review

HTC Desire S front, back and profile views
HTC Desire S deals
The HTC Desire S is best seen as an evolving step from the previous year's Desire, rather than as a completely different species. Not much has changed, but the changes are improvements at least (which sadly is not always the case with a supposed upgrade). So what's changed, what's stayed the same, and is it actually any good?

More than You Could Desire?

To skip to the end: yes, it's a good phone. Very good. We were a fan of the Desire and were glad to see that they hadn't changed too much. The user interface for instance, remains excellent. HTC is one of the few manufacturers who have actually made to improve upon the basic Android system. That's one of the differences from the original Desire in fact, as the Desire S has what was then the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread system (since been surpassed of course). The improvements with HTC's proprietary Sense 2.2 technology are small but effective. For instance the quick settings feature set in to the notifications bar at the top is a great addition, as is the simple genius of being able to silence an incoming call just by turning the phone over. The little things which don't sound like much actually considerably increase the pleasure of using this phone.

Other aspects which have remained the same from the original Desire are the screen, which is the same 3.7 inches with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, which to be fair is still good and provides crisp pictures and graphics. If you are looking for something better than that though then you could check out HTC Desire HD deals and get a 4.2 inch HD display.

The processing power of the Desire S stays the same with a 1 GHz processor, although the speed does increase with the upgrade to 768 RAM. Now that there are dual core processors coming out this kind of processing power no longer stands up to the very best out there, but it's more than enough for the vast majority of tasks.

One of the most impressive differences comes in the physical design of the phone. The chassis is made from just a single piece of aluminium, in a unibody design. This makes it feel very solid and classy (access to the battery and sim is available through a small plastic cover which doesn't detract from the feel of solidity).

Web browsing is fast, and with the pre-installed Flash support there's no problem watching videos on the web. The intuitive pinch to zoom feature is also included. No complaints there. The camera is slightly disappointing because it hasn't been upgraded from the 5 megapixel outing on the original Desire. Although you can now record 720p HD video, which is a welcome upgrade. Also, there's a camera on the front of the phone for video-call capabilities (which comes with with the Android Gingerbread OS).

Check out the full specs on the HTC Desire S at the HTC website.

To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

If you already have the HTC Desire then the changes made to the HTC Desire S will probably not be significant enough to tempt you to shell out for the upgrades. On the other hand if you're looking for phone deals on a user friendly Android, and you don't need the very top processing power, then it's definitely worth checking out HTC Desire S monthly contract deals. This might not be a market leader, but mid-range smart phones don't come much better than this.

Does the BlackBerry Torch 9860 Hold a Flame to iPhones and Android?

BlackBerry Torch 9860 front, back and profile views
BlackBerry Torch 9860 deals
With the BlackBerry Torch 9860 a bold move has been made away from the traditional BlackBerry design. You will find no Qwerty keyboard, in fact no physical keyboard of any kind. There are a few buttons at the bottom of the phone, and there's still an optical trackpad too, but this is very much a touchscreen phone. So, is it a contender to the iPhone and Android platforms? What will BlackBerry fans think? Let's investigate.

The Basics

Let's start with the basics and say that, basically, this is a very nice phone. The design is sleek and slender, and although at 12mm thick it's more bulky than most out there, it really doesn't feel it. In contrast to the straight lines and hard edges of the iPhone, BlackBerry have gone for curves and rounded edges, making it a pleasure to hold.

Okay, how about the operating system? It comes with BlackBerry OS 7, which is a vast improvement on previous incarnations. It's responsive and well designed, with different compartments for different functions, making it easy to find what you want in a hurry, and easy to customise as well. With a single-core 1.2 GHz processor it's plenty smooth as long as you're only doing one thing at a time, but try doing much more than that and expect the phone to slow down. There's also 2.5GB of internal storage (which is a lot), but doesn't come with a microSD card so if you intend to download music and watch videos, that's going to have to be a quick addition.

The screen is clear and crisp, and stands up well to the best Android and iPhone offerings. With a resolution of only 400 x 800 pixels (compared to the iPhone 4's 640 x 960) you might not think it would, but it really does. The screen is bright and the colours are nice and bold. The 3.7 inch screen is plenty big enough as well. So, is it really a contender with iPhones and Androids?

BlackBerry v Android v iPhone

Eeeehhhh, well... it depends. One of the best things about the Android and iPhone are the massive and ever expanding app stores, in effect allowing you the chance of a minor upgrade every time a new app comes out that you like. Or to totally overhaul the way you use your phone. And while the BlackBerry Torch 9860 comes with pre-installed apps, allowing you to do things like listen to music and watch videos, and there is an app store (called BlackBerry App World) it really doesn't compare to the Android or iPhone library and it probably never will.

That, in effect, is the major downfall for the BlackBerry Torch 9860, and it's a shame because otherwise it would be a truly excellent phone. It is, if you don't need copious amounts of apps. If you're a BlackBerry fan and you're really not bothered about being able to play the latest game on your phone then it's definitely worth a look.

BlackBerry for Business

BlackBerry made its name, of course, by being a business friendly phone. That little keyboard makes emailing easy and fast for a lot of people. The BlackBerry Torch 9860 doesn't have that of course, so is it servicing the core BlackBerry fan base?

Well, not if you really want that keyboard. However there's still the BlackBerry Messenger service which is fast and reliable. Plus you have a little LED above the display which flashes when you've received a message, useful for if you are in a business meeting and have to have your phone on silent.

The full specs for the BlackBerry Torch 9860 can be found at BlackBerry's website.

Summing Up

With the big screen there's plenty of room for an on-screen keyboard to be just as good as the physical keys, but if you really want that Qwerty keyboard then this isn't the phone for you. And if you need the vast and ever-increasing library of apps available from an Android or an iPhone then it would be better to check out something like SamsungGalaxy S II deals or iPhone deals.

On the other hand if you love what BlackBerrys have to offer and can do without the physical keyboard and vast arrays of apps, it's definitely worth having a look at BlackBerry Torch 9860 contract deals to see if you can be tempted by the impressively low priced phone deals on offer for a device of unquestionable quality.

Google Nexus S: Phone Deals Two and a Half Years Later

Google Nexus S from Samsung
Google Nexus S
Two and a half years ago, the Google Nexus S was the flagship phone from Google, and the first to introduce the Gingerbread Android OS. With the technology continuing to advance at incredible rates, this phone has now been surpassed of course so if you're looking for the current top of the line models then that's not what this is anymore. However if you're on the look for an excellent phone on the cheap then the Google NexusS is worth considering.

Specifications

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth
Screen size: 4 in.
Camera resolution: 5 megapixels
Screen resolution: 800 x 400 pixels
Size (HxWxD): 124 x 63 x 11 mm
Weight: 129 g

Find the full specs at the Android website.

Design

The S in the name in the phone refers to Samsung, which provided the hardware for the phone. In fact, the Google Nexus S looks an awful lot like the Galaxy S from Samsung. The Nexus does have a very slight curve to it though, the purpose of which is to make it a more comfortable experience holding it against your face as you chat. It's a nice feature because it's almost the last thing that seems to be considered these days, how a phone best makes a telephone call. This one had good audio quality as well by the way.

The screen is nice and large at 4 inches, with a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels, amounting to 233 ppi (pixels per inch). While that is dwarfed by the iPhone 4's 330 ppi, it's still very good for an Android, with pictures and videos appearing sharp and with natural colours.

In other words, the phone is plenty stylish enough. Samsung certainly know how to make a sexy looking phone. They're not so hot on the software though which is why this is a very productive combination, with the purest version of Android Gingerbread installed as the operating system. At the time it first came out this was the first time it had been seen, but two years later of course it is no longer the latest.

Speed

As well as the Gingerbread operating system there is a 1 GHz processor which was excellent for its time and still stands up reasonably well to recent offerings, although it is no longer the fastest that there is. It's still a great phone for games and can handle several applications operating at the same time without crashing or even slowing down.

One of the best features of this phone is the speed of the web browsing, which challenges the iPhone 4. On top of that you have Adobe Flash support so you can experience the web the way it was meant to be experienced.

The user interface is not quite as good as the iPhone 4 though, it's a little bit more jerky when using the pinching method with your fingers to zoom in or out for instance. Also, although Android applications provide plenty of options the tweaking method is not entirely intuitive and you have to be prepared to wade through a number of different menus to get everything set up just as you like it.

Overall

It's tough to sum up the Google Nexus S two and a half years from when it was first released. Of course it isn't one of the top mobile phones available anymore, but in all honesty it's still a good one and if you're looking for good phone deals for high quality phones then it's definitely worth having a look at Google Nexus S contract deals.

Motorola Xoom: Ahead of the Competition?

Motorola Xoom - Android Tablet
Motorola Xoom
When most of us think of a tablet device, the first thing that pops in to our mind is some kind of iPad but of course there are also Android tablets, the Motorola Xoom (pronounced “zoom”) being one of the first to make use of the Android Gingerbread operating system.

So if you're looking at tablets then by all means you should check out iPad deals, but there's no need to stop there unless you're a dedicated Apple aficionado. So, how does the Motorola Xoom measure up?

Motorola Xoom Specifications

Operating system: Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb
Screen size: 10.1 in.
Size (HxWxD): 250x168x13 mm
Weight: 730 g

Find the full specs at the Motorola website.

Why Get a Tablet at All?

When the iPad was first introduced, a common reaction, in addition to “that looks cool” was “what would you use it for?” and for some people that confusion is still prevalent. If you're in the market for a tablet then that probably isn't you, but it helps to identify how the tablet can be best used anyway so bare with us.

First of all, it's not just a really big phone. You can't make a phone call on the Motorola Xoom. Other than that though it is a lot like an Android phone – you can get all of the same apps. So for instance if you've ever found flicking tiny irate birds around your smart phone too fiddly, on a tablet you can do it on a much bigger screen. It's not all just about playing games though, it really makes just about everything with a graphical element easier. If you've ever tried to read an ebook on a phone then you'll know it can be pretty straining with a small screen. The same goes for browsing the web. A big screen just makes these things easier.

Okay, you might say, but isn't that what you've got a desktop computer for, or a laptop? That's perfectly fair but they're pretty bulky. They might be called laptops but actually having them on your lap for long periods of time while you try to read a book on it isn't going to be that comfortable. Plus, what if you want to lie down and read or browse the web?

For these things it's helpful to have something which finds a middle ground between the portability of a mobile phone with the larger screen of a full size computer.

The Motorola Xoom

So, now that we know how we are going to want to use the Motorola Xoom, how good is it at providing these things?

Well, the screen is nice and big for one thing, at just over 10 inches. That's big enough to be able to browse the web easily, to read and write emails, and to watch videos. With the Android 3.0 Gingerbread it runs smoothly and ostensibly everything is fine. There was a slight problem when it first came out that there were very few dedicated tablet apps, but there are plenty of them around now.

The real problems come with the details though. Quite literally. All of your Android phone apps will work on the Motorola Xoom, but the problem is that the larger screen in this case is used to cram more on. You can get 56 icons on each screen, which is not really the point of having a bigger screen. What's more the widgets, instead of being nice and expansive, are small and focus on giving lots of information all at one time.

The email app is good, it makes use of the big screen by having two columns, one for the message and one for the folders. The Motorola Xoom is good for watching videos too... although listening to them as well poses more of a problem. The speakers are on the back of the device so someone in front of you is going to hear better what is going on than you are.

It would be easy to get carried away with the negatives though as the truth is that this is a very good device. Web browsing is fast and it has Adobe Flash so you can get the full internet experience. It is slightly annoying that websites identify the device as a phone so give you the small screen, meaning you have to switch to the full mode manually, but that's not a huge inconvenience. On the whole the Motorola Xoom is a solidly performing tablet device.

Overall

The Motorola Xoom does everything you would expect of it and what's more it does it quickly and stylishly. It certainly has its flaws but if you're in the market for a tablet then it's certainly worth having a look at Motorola Xoom contract deals to find the very best offers.

Budget Music Phones: Nokia X3 Vs Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman

Nokia X3 Red - slider phone
Nokia X3 Red
The Nokia X3 Red and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman are both marketed as music phones, but in all fairness we're taking a bit of a liberty by comparing the two. The Nokia X3 is a budget slider phone without 3G or wi-fi whereas the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman is an Android with a 1 GHz processor. They're in totally different leagues really, but they are both marketed as budget music phones so we'll compare them on that basis.

Specifications

They're No iPhones

The first thing to consider, when talking about music phones, is how they compare to the iPhone. Which is in a way the most unfair comparison of all. If you have the budget to get an iPhone and you're looking for a good music playing phone then check out the latest iPhone deals or a high end Android phone.

These phones we're consdierting here are for folks on a budget, so don't be expecting the best. Now, having said that, what do we get?

Budget Music Phones

Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman black
Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman
It's been quite some time since the brand “Walkman” had any cache with hip music listeners, in fact if you're old enough to remember them then you're probably too old to be truly hip anymore. For those of you who are not old enough to remember them, you see in the old days you needed a physical thing called a CD or cassette tape, and they only held about an hour and a half's worth of music at most. If you wanted to listen to them on the go then the Sony Walkman was one of the best devices you could get.

Of course nowadays that kind of hardware is practically obsolete and you can listen to music on just about any mobile phone, so what do these self-proclaimed music phones have that others don't? Well the Noika X3 boasts dedicated music buttons to the left of the display, allowing you to pause, play, stop, wind, etc. at the press of a button. There's also a 3.5mm headphone jack, but again that's actually pretty standard.

When it comes to the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman, its music playing capabilities are actually one of the most disappointing things about it, considering that it's been given the Walkman brand and is classed as a music phone. There are no easy to use buttons that enable you to control the music any easier than you would on any other phone, the supplied headphones are poor and perhaps worst of all it only comes with a 2GB micro SD card which, for anything but the most meagre music collection, is going to be far from sufficient. It can handle up to a 32GB SD card though and if you intend to use the phone for music primarily you'll probably want to make that investment.

As it stands then, when it comes to being a dedicated music phone, the older and more basic Nokia X3 actually is better in a way. At the very least it makes it easier to control the music tracks than the Sony Ericsson does. But there is of course more to a phone, even a music phone, than the music.

Other Features

The Nokia X3 is only two years old but you'd be forgiven for thinking it was a lot older. It's design is clunky, it doesn't support 3G or wi-fi and it has a small screen with a very narrow viewing range. What's more it's camera only uses a disappointing 3.2 megapixels and there is no auto focus function. Also, the call quality, usually excellent on Nokia's, is lacking in this model, even in areas with a strong signal.

On the other hand, when you forget about the supposed music superiority of the Sony Ericsson then you will find that it stands up very well to other budget Android phones. The 1 GHz processor makes it powerful, it's compact, there's a good build qulity and Sony's Timescape 4.0 user interface is excellent. For Androids the screen is rather low in resolution, making web browsing a bit tough; you're going to need to do a lot of zooming. On the plus side though it has Adobe Flash capabilities so watching videos on the net is perfectly fine.

Overall

If you're looking for a cheap music phone then check out the Nokia X3 red deals available because, although it is lacking in many places, it does stand up well as a budget music phone. On the other hand, if you're new to Android and you're looking for a good quality entry level device then it's worth looking at the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman black contract deals or Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman white deals. If you're looking for an alternative to the iPhone then neither of these phones are it, but if you're on a budget and you know exactly what you want from a phone, these are worth checking out.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

Coming just a few months after the release of the original Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, the Sony Ericsoon Xperia Arc S has to work pretty hard to make the upgrade worthwhile. So does it reach new heights or is it destined to plummet from the lofty heights off great expectations?

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S black front and side view
Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S Black
Let's find out, shall we?

We don't want to keep you in suspense any longer. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S is an excellent phone, however the upgrades on the orginal Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc are probably too minor to make the upgrade wotth it.  Having said that however, they're probably good enough for the people who bought the original to be a little bit peeved that they don't have the best version of the phone anymore, just months after it was brand new. But it's probably not enough of an improvement for many of the people who have that phone to actually make the upgrade though.

Okay, so what are the differences, and what makes the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc a good phone to begin with? Well, one of the major improvements is the processor, which has been upgraded from the original 1GHz in the original Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to 1.4GHz in the S class. Actually though that is not a major upgrade and you won't notice a major difference most of the time. In fact a dual core processor could have been hoped for and that would have kept it in the race for being a contender for the top Android phone throughout 2012.

Indeed the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S is one of the flagships of Sony's smart phone range and it is plenty impressive. One of its very best features is the camera which can record 720p HD video and take 8MP stills. What's more its screen is one of the best in the Android range, at 4.2 inches and with a screen resolution of 233 pixels per inch (ppi) which is bested only really by the iPhone 4S (at 330 ppi) it's a major asset. There's plenty of storage space for your pictures and videos as well, with 400MB internal storage being backed up by an 8GB micro SD card.  The only downside of the big screen is that it drains the battery fast, and you might find yourelf having to recharge twice a day with extensive use.

Plus you have access to Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited libraries which are pretty well stocked so there's plenty to download. The web browser is exceptionally fast and it's Adobe Flash supported too so you can have the full web-browsing experience.

It packs Android 2.3.4, and the xLoud technology makes the external speaker louder (although that can lead to distortions so you might want to turn it off sometimes). Something that could lead to irritation is the comprehensive facebook syncing. If you like connecting everything to your facebook page then it's great, but if you don't it's tough to get all the messaging to stop.

The only other negative really is the case. It looks plenty stylish and it's an unmistakably great design, however it's made out of plastic and feels like it.

Check out the full specs at the Sony website.

Overall

If you already have the original then forking out for the upgrade probably isn't worth it but otherwise this phone is well worth a look, comparing well to other top Andoid phones. So check out Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S contract deals if you're in the market for a high end Android phone (or Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S white deals for a variation on the traditional black).

Detailed Information about Apple New iPad Wi-Fi 4G 64GB

Design:
The new iPad is same as the previous one in dimensions except it is very thin. It is 9.5 inches tall and 7.31 inches wide, .37 inches thick. It weighs about 1.44 pounds. The body is made up of aluminum. The processor of the device has been improved to a latest thing A5X. The dual-core A5X chip with quad-core graphics support provides a great deal of smoothness while powering substantially more technology. The home button on the bottom of the screen, and the volume rocker on the right side along with the mute switch/rotation lock are the same as before. There are two cameras: the front camera is a simple VGA but the rear camera is a 5 megapixel specially designed camera by Apple called the iSight camera. 64 GB memory, Bluetooth 4.0 and cellular technology are introduced.

Pros:
The design is slim and lite in weight as compared to a tablet so it is comfortable to use. The touch and screen resolution is awesome. 9.7 inch retina display provides 4 times more pixels and 44% greater color saturation than the iPad 2. 2048 x 1536 pixels render text and images quality better than ever. The new i-sight camera provides great picture quality in both dim and bright light situations. A newly designed 5-element f/2.4 lens also renders images with greater sharpness and definition. The color clearance is also remarkable. Though a huge screen seems a little odd for taking pictures, due to the big screen the picture display is better than any other camera or smart phone. Camera supports mostly all of the video formats including H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second. A full HD video quality; due to a great display quality, big screen and good storing capability it is very enjoyable to store and watch videos. The combination of IOS and iCloud makes wireless sync of the total system possible. The information and data of the device can be synchronized and the device can checked and repaired online. Features existing on this product such as Language Support, Keyboard Support, and Dictionary Support make it very easy and user friendly to work with the tablet. It is very important for a device to be user friendly and this iPad takes the term user friendly to a whole new level.

Cons:
The new iPad is slightly heavier than last year's model; apps and movies optimized for the screen might take up more space; and ports for HDMI, USB, and SD require adapters. SIRI digital assistant was not completely introduced in the new iPad. Only the voice-to-text dictation capability has migrated to the iPad. One major drawback of this new iPad is that Apple hasn’t included adobe flash support in the safari browser which makes many online apps and videos unavailable to the tablet. This lack of access is not at all desired in this great featuring tablet. The screen is big, resolution is high, and processor ability is great; as a result a larger power source is required for the device. A 70 percent larger battery pack is required for this new iPad. As a result the charging time of the battery increased which consequently results in more heating of the device. Voice dictation is less accurate. Using the new iPad as an e-reader is not preferable. It spite of having retina display which views words and pictures clearer than ever, the iPad weighs 1.44 pounds, which makes it really tiresome to hold in your hand for a long period of time. Thus reading is not very comfortable on this iPad.

Features:
There are uncountable great features available in this new iPad. The i-sight camera of this iPad has face detecting ability while taking still pictures. It can detect up to 10 faces while shooting humans. Safari, Mail, Messages, Photos, FaceTime, Newsstand, App Store, iTunes, Videos, Maps, Music, Game Center, Photo Booth, YouTube, Contacts, Reminders, Calendar, Notes, Camera; these amazing built in apps are present. This iPad is surely made for the whole world as it is supported by dictionaries of about 50 different language. Dictionary support of this level is really amazing. A wide range of people can use it for various purposes from gaming, multimedia, and entertainment to official work as almost the entire file formats are supported in this iPad. The GPS system works like beauty in this tablet. The GPS of iPad 4G allows a user to accurately pinpoint their location. This makes navigation to and mapping of distant places very easy. This feature is especially helpful for tourists and travelers, because navigation is a very important part their lives. Another amazing thing is voice dictation. One can speak their emails, texts, notes, or web searches and have the written words automatically appear. This feature makes day to day life really comfortable, and allows one to do these things even while walking and doing other things. WI-FI and other wireless connections and data transfer are available in this iPad. It can be connected to a pc through a wire and more than one wireless device simultaneously.

Performance:
the speed of this iPad is good enough for multitasking several apps at the same time. The touch is very smooth and the screen is durable enough to last a long time. It’s a whole new experience to watch videos with its improved retina. The video quality is truly awesome. And the new i-sight camera gives birth to the new idea that such a large device can be used for taking still pictures. The camera performs great in every lighting condition. Apple New iPad Wi-Fi 4G 64GB is a product that will definitely catch the eye of customers. Some new features are introduced in this iPad which makes the whole concept of a tablet different. For getting the iPad within the lowest price, please check Apple New iPad contracts.

Complete review on Samsung Galaxy S

The Samsung galaxy s had become very popular after it was introduced in the market. This is a great looking phone with great features. Almost all the features of a smart phone are present in this phone at a reasonable price.

Design specification: The dimensions are 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9 mm and it weighs 119 grams. The screen is 4 inches from corner to corner, 480 x 800 pixels.

The capacitive touch screen is truly very sensitive; no touch pen is required to operate the touch. The screen is well protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, resisting scratches. There is a metallic frame around the phone to protect the screen further and the hard plastic cover gives it more durability. 1500 mAh battery, standby up to 750 h (2G) / up to 576 h (3G) and talk time up to 13 h 30 min (2G) / up to 6 h 30 min (3G). The primary camera is 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus and the secondary is VGA. The video quality is superb. 8 GB/16GB storage, 512 MB RAM, 2GB ROM and the external storage can be expandable up to 32 GB. The dotted design at the back of the phone makes it look good. The volume control button, lock key, the camera button, and the ports for charging and headphone pin is designed conveniently which makes getting used to the phone very easy.

Common features:
Android operating system makes multitasking very easy. Sensors like Accelerometer, proximity, compass are present. SMS (threaded view), MMS, Email, Push Mail, IM, RSS are available. Fm radio, java, GPS system and it comes with black and white color. There is also a TV installer present is this phone along with document editor (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF). Internet options are made very friendly in this phone Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration. This phone was made keeping in mind both 2g and 3g networks. Most of the video file can be played and the quality is really great. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: both the functions are very speedy. There are infinite numbers of apps that are present and can be installed and used for various purposes. All the features that one can possibly imagine in a smart phone are present in the Galaxy S. Apps are most attractive features of smart phones. There are several hundred apps which can be installed and used for many purposes including gaming to business purposes. Playing games in the Samsung galaxy s is very amusing because of the favorable operating system and speed and internal memory of the phone.

Impressive things:
The outlook is absolutely fantastic. This slim and glassy appearance is great to attract people. Multitasking and speed of this phone is remarkable. The phone can maintain good speed running 4-5 apps simultaneously. Though 119 grams is not a lite weight for a phone, considering the size, shape and contents of this phone this weight is light. The functions are easy to understand, user friendly to perform comparing to other smart phones. The touch is super sensitive and very comfortable to use. AMOLED screens are advanced technology in the field of display technology that drives each pixel separately. This phone takes net browsing, social interacting, and using several modern communicating medium to a whole new level like- TV, live radio etc. Samsung Galaxy S is difficult to mess it up while flashing the firmware. The pin of the headphone sticks tightly into the 3.5mm headphone jack. The micro USB socket for charging and data transfer is hidden behind a sliding door which protects the port form dust and abrasion.

Negative sides:
The most negative side of this phone is that it doesn’t have a flash. Without flash camera today is good for nothing. Taking good pictures at night is not possible without flash. The phone has to be kept very still to get a good picture especially, in the night mood which normally becomes very difficult to do so. The three buttons on the bottom – two are touch sensitive and one is a physical button, such combination seems rather odd. The firmware (Android 2.2.1 Froyo) seems faulty. For a phone the device seems a little large. People who are fond of taking good pictures will certainly not be interested in this phone. Without flash it is impossible to take pictures at night. The camera might be 5 mp and the picture quality is also good but due to the lack of flash it is useless to large range of customers.

Smart phones are all about browsing the internet, multi-tasking, and using more and more apps. The Samsung Galaxy S provides all the features of a good smart phone. If someone is looking for a phone that will not only let him communicate but also help to make their life more comfortable and better performing, the Samsung Galaxy S would be the perfect choice. You can have the piece within the lowest possible cost if you check the Samsung Galaxy S Deals.
