When looking in its box, you’ll see the charger, microUSB cable, a single-piece headset, a 2 GB micro SD card and the user guides.
Measuring 108 x 50 x 13.3 mm and with a weight of 93.6 g, this baby is very light, compact and comfortable in the hand. Pocket-friendly too. They used some high quality materials when designing it and you’ll see what I’m talking about when actually holding it in the hand. The phone looks very classy and that’s because of its silvery frame, the metallic finish on the back and sleek keyboard.

Our precious Pearl comes with a fine 256k-TFT display with a resolution of 360 x 400 pixels. The sun may rise and shine upon it, you’ll still be able to easily use your phone, because the colors are bright, vivid and the viewing angles are also very good. Below the screen is that strange looking keypad. I know you’re a little skeptical about it, but it’s actually very friendly when typing really quick and it won’t be a burden, I promise. You’ll find the navigation pad very useful. Two call keys, a Menu and a Back button are surrounding the optical track pad, which is very responsive. Above the display, you’ll see the earpiece and a status LED.
On the left side of the phone, you’ll come across the unprotected microUSB port, 3.5 mm audio jack and a key which activates voice commands by default, but you can change its task. An identical key is on the right side, next to the volume rocker.

On the top are the dedicated music keys. The play/pause button is also a Mute and Lock/Unlock key.
On the back is the unprotected camera lens, next to the LED flash. The bottom is almost bare, hosting only the mouthpiece.
If you’re a BlackBerry user, you’ll be familiar with the 5.0 operating system, which hasn’t got the friendliest user interface, but gets the job done. If you’re a stranger to it, you’ll surely accommodate in no time. As for its brain, it has a 624 MHz processor with 256 MB internal memory storage, which is upgradeable to 32 GB. The phone is very responsive and I didn’t encounter lag when using it.

The call quality is very good, I didn’t experience any reception issues and the voices were loud and clear for both parties involved in the call. You also get some useful features, like Smart and Voice dialing.
Messaging is okay, although you might miss the QWERTY keyboard if being a great fan of it. After the moaning process, you’ll find the minimal keypad to be quite satisfying and not bad at all when texting; it’s actually very easy to use. You can send all sorts of messages, from SMS and MMS to emails.
The connectivity package is very rich. You have quad-band GSM, EDGE, GPRS support, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth with A2DP and 3G with HSDPA.

Browsing will be a great experience, as the pages are loaded fast, fit nicely on the display and the optical track pad helps a lot, being very precise and useful when panning. Unfortunately, no Flash support.
Our Pearl comes with a 3.15 megapixel camera that takes pictures at a maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and comes with autofocus and a LED flash. You have a lot of settings for image effects, quality, size and also the geotagging feature. The picture quality is very good.
The video camera shoots in VGA at 30 fps and also produces decent videos.

The music player supports formats like MP3, WAV, WMA, eAAC+ and also does a great job, even if it doesn’t look too pretty. It offers equalizer options, audio boosting and the sound quality is wonderful.
The video player also has a modest-looking interface, but comes with support for MP4, WMV and DivX/XviD. You can play almost everything on it and the image quality is very good. Altogether, the media player is capable of full-filling your needs and that’s all that matters, right ?

When it comes to applications, I think that the Mobile office is the most useful one, allowing you not only to open, but also to edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. For PDF files you can get a free app. You also have the classic applications, some of them are the voice recorder, calendar, stopwatch, timer, a password keeper and others, like games. My favorite one is Sudoku, but you also have Word Mole, Bricks and a mobile version for Texas Hold’em.

If you get lost somewhere, a GPS receiver is also here, it has A-GPS support and BlackBerry Maps for navigation. You may also download Google Maps for free.

The 1150 mAh battery survived almost 3 days of moderate usage in my hands, I’ve made and received some calls, listened to music, sent emails, browsed on the web a little and played Sudoku every day, until it needed recharging at the end of the third day, and I find that pretty remarkable.

The BlackBerry Pearl 9105 makes a good impression, it looks classy and sleek and besides that, it also does a fine job with its great offerings, such as the browser, media player, camera and all the amount of applications.
